Local splash pads, spray parks opening early as extreme heat approaches

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

In preparation for the extreme heat, some area splash pads and spray parks are already open.

This is a great way to stay cool if you plan on being outside.

Below is a list of Springfield splash pads that have been opened about two weeks ahead of schedule:

  • Van Horn Park
  • Calhoun Park
  • Marshal Roy Park
  • Hubbard Park
  • Nathan Bill Park
  • Balliett Park
  • Emily Bill Park
  • Kennifick Park
  • Mary Troy Park          

The following Springfield splash pads are being renovated and/or painted and are expected to open by mid-July.

  • Forest Park
  • Barrows Park
  • Adams Park
  • Myrtle Street Park

Chicopee officials said Monday that the Rivers and Fairview spray parks are also open and that all other spray parks should be turned on by 3 p.m. today.

In Holyoke, the spray park at Community Field has opened.

The spray parks at Buttery Brook Park and Beachgrounds Park in South Hadley have also been opened and will be open 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. through Labor Day.
