Two retired police dogs from the Massachusetts State Police are looking for new homes..and the response by the public has been tremendous, police say.

Hundreds of responses have come in already from people interested in adopting the dogs. State Police gave the update Wednesday, less than 24 hours after posting the original notice.

Alex is an 8 year-old German Shepherd originally from Slovakia who has been trained in patrol and narcotics detection.

Klauss is a 5 year-old Malinois mix, dual-trained in patrol and human remains detection.

State Police posted to their Facebook on Tuesday looking for caring homes for Alex and Klauss based on certain criteria. Since then, they report they've received about 500 interested applicants already.

The process to find forever homes for Alex and Klauss is well underway. State Police will conduct interviews and run background checks on prospective owners.
