SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Our Western Mass News morning team has been solidified. Mary Wilson and David Horwitz are so excited to share the desk every weekday morning, so they played a little game to get to know each other better and for you all at home to get to know them too.

What’s your favorite season?

David: “The summertime. It’s a time growing up we can go vacation, get a break from school, and spend time with friends and family. I love playing basketball and other sports, going to the beach, and being with friends and family.”

Mary: “The summertime. I love all things outdoors, I started biking a lot more during the pandemic and growing up, my summers were filled with fairs. I even showed calves with my 4-H club at The Big E.

What’s your favorite holiday?

David: “Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it’s a day where your surrounded by the people you love. During my freshman year of college, I asked my family if they would be interested in the Manchester Road Race (7k). They agreed! My dad and siblings ran it every year. In 2016, my dad sadly passed away. My brothers and sister try to run it every year in his memory.”

Mary: “Christmas. I’m going to embarrass my sisters by showing some pictures of our matching PJs our mom still gets us. Now, I have nieces and nephews, which makes it even more fun. Being from Vermont, I try to get a ski trip in every year with family.”

What’s your favorite sports team?

David: “Yankees, Celtics, and UConn. Whenever my dad would take us to New York as kids, we would go to Yankees games. Also, one of my best friends worked for the Celtics for three years. He would hook up my friends and I with tickets for games and also onto court or in the tunnel with the players and I grew up in Connecticut watching the UConn Huskies and then I went there. I actually practiced with the women’s basketball team and helped them get better and was there when the men’s team won two championships, so I bleed blue as they say.”

Mary: “The Red Sox. I’m not a huge sports watcher, but I like to head to Florida every winter to escape the cold for a bit and always try to catch a Red Sox spring training game in Fort Myers.”

What’s your favorite mascot?

David: “Otto the Orange! This is hard for a lot of my friends from UConn to accept because the Huskies and Orange are rivals, but my dad and brother both went to Syracuse. My brother was a manager and graduate assistant for their men’s basketball team for several years. The Syracuse Carrier Dome is unlike any sports environment. You can feel the place rocking.”

Mary: “Otto the Orange! I’m a proud Syracuse University grad and loved catching basketball games at the dome. I was also on the women’s rowing team for two years.”

What’s your favorite food?

David: “My favorite food is hibachi and sushi. While I love a good salmon roll, I also love the interactive aspect of being with people and having a fun time at dinner. I love the chanting when they pour the sake in your mouth. It’s always a fun time and experience, especially when you go with a good group.”

Mary: “Lobster. I like to visit Maine over the summer and of course, that’s the best place to get it. I actually used to hate the smell of lobster when I was a kid, but now, I can’t get enough of it.”
