AMHERST, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - It’s exciting times on the UMass Amherst campus as the women’s basketball team is heading to NCAA Tournament.

UMass won the Atlantic 10 Tournament this past weekend and now will play in the tournament for just the third time in program history.

Forward Sam Breen, the A-10 Player of the Year, said the Minutewomen are enjoying this week ahead of the tournament.

“A lot of anticipation for Sunday. This week, we’re just going to focus on us...Have two days off, so that will be good,” Breen explained.

Minutewomen Head Coach Tory Verdi added, “When I took over this program six years ago, we had to start over. It was ground zero…Just so appreciative of the administration, coaching staff...great job bringing in student-athletes.”

UMass will find out this Sunday evening where they’re heading and who they will play in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Tournament.
