Body found in gazebo of Enfield town green
ENFIELD, CT (WFSB) - A homicide investigation began on the Enfield town green overnight.
The location was 81-199 Main St.
Police Chief Alaric Fox gave an update around 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday.
He told Channel 3 that a person walking near the town green around 2:30 a.m. saw a body in the gazebo. The person called 911.
“Unfortunately, officers were able to confirm that that adult male was deceased upon our arrival at the scene,” Fox said. “In conjunction with our partners from the Connecticut State police, an investigation is underway at scene.”
Fox confirmed that the death appeared to be a homicide.
“We are comfortable calling it a homicide investigation,” he said. “I’m not in a position to go into specific details because that has the potential to impact the integrity of the investigation.”
He said his department is pursuing a number of leads.
Channel 3′s cameras were rolling when Suffield police arrested a man on the Windsor Locks Canal Trail, just across the river from the Enfield green. However, it’s unclear if the arrest is connected with the homicide.
Investigators have yet to reveal anything about the arrest.
“I knew something was up when I saw everything here. I wouldn’t have come here if I knew that happened. We were actually going to come here early this morning, but we decided to do errands first,” said Rubino.
Rubino said the town green is a popular spot for her family.
“My husband and my son walk every single day around here and he was right over there so it’s very unsettling,” said Rubino.
Enfield police said they would have a presence around the town hall area for the rest of the day.
Police identified the victim as Christopher Kennedy, 55.
No other details were released.
Police asked anyone with information to give Enfield police a call.
