Don Maher

Growing up in Western Massachusetts, First Warning Meteorologist Don Maher remembers such weather events as the Windsor Locks, CT tornado, the Blizzard of '78, Hurricane Gloria and Hurricane Bob.

After experiencing all of those events, he knew he wanted to forecast weather in his home state.

Don had been working in sales for many years, but realized he would not be happy unless he was doing what he had dreamed about since he was a child. He decided it was finally time to make that change.

After completing the Broadcast Meteorology Program at Mississippi State University, Don interned at WSHM-TV in Springfield where he gained valuable experience forecasting New England weather.

He was thrilled to join the Western Mass News team in October 2012 and forecast the weather in the area he has lived all of his life.

Don is a member of both the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society.

In his spare time, Don enjoys cheering on the Boston Red Sox, the Denver Broncos, and of course, the Mississippi State Bulldogs. He also enjoys golfing, photography and spending time with his wife, Karen.
