(WCPO/Meredith) -- A deputy in Ohio is facing charges after using what his sheriff calls "excessive force" on an inmate.

The incident was caught on video.

Deputy Rick Johnson is charged with misdemeanor assault.

The video appears to show Johnson pushing a handcuffed inmate up against a wall before Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey says he shoved the man to the concrete floor.

The hard landing cut the man above his right eye, according to the police affidavit.

"Other people stepped up and said here's an incident. We looked at it right away, pulled the video and immediately acted upon it," Sheriff McGuffey told KCPO.
