(Meredith) — A Florida mother has been charged with murder after police said she admitted to killing her six-month-old son.

The family said they filed a police report against Vernita Jones, 25, when she began making threats to her child, but police did not find any signs of abuse during a welfare check. Weeks later, the infant was dead.

Jones, of Clewiston, Florida has been charged with homicide by child abuse in the death of Anthony Frost.

Jones, baby Anthony and his father Tony Frost lived in a home together in Florida. The family told WPBF that Jones began sending text messages to Frost threatening to harm Anthony.

On Sept. 27, the Frost family filed a police report against Jones regarding the threats to the baby. However, police did not find any signs of abuse during a welfare check.

The family said the next day, Jones moved herself and baby Anthony to North Carolina, away from Frost in Florida. That was the last time Frost would see his son alive.

According to the arrest warrant obtained by WHNS, Jones admitted to suffocating and killing baby Anthony on Nov. 24 in Edgefield County, North Carolina -- just eight weeks after the police report was filed against her.

Thom Berry, a spokesman from the State Law Enforcement Division, told WHNS Anthony's body was found in a Greenville County, South Carolina landfill after a two-day search.

Berry said Anthony's body was placed in a dumpster in Edgefield County at some point over the weekend. The contents of that trash bin were later brought to the Greenville County landfill.

Berry said thanks to landfill records, officers knew when the truck in question arrived at the landfill and what part of the landfill it dumped its contents at.

Teams combed through that section of the landfill. Berry announced that Anthony's body was recovered and the coroner was called to the scene.

Jones is currently being held at the Edgefield County Detention Center. Bond information was not available. If convicted, Jones faces 30 years to life in prison.

A GoFundMe account has been created to help with Anthony's funeral costs. You can donate here.
