(Meredith) – During the coronavirus pandemic, daily tasks are not what they used to be. Many of them require extra steps to protect ourselves from getting sick.

Doing laundry is not exempt from needing extra precautions. Here are five tips on how to properly do your laundry during the outbreak, according to Tide scientist Jennifer Ahoni.

  1. Wear disposable gloves.
  2. Use the warmest water setting you can for the garment (check the clothing label).
  3. Be sure to dry items completely.
  4. Clean and disinfect your hampers and baskets.
  5. Wash your hands with soap as soon as you remove your gloves.

Remember, washing your hands, disinfecting surfaces and practicing social distancing can all help prevent the virus from spreading.
