BROCKTON, Mass. (WCVB/CNN/Meredith) -- A Massachusetts neighborhood is in mourning after a 9-year-old boy died when he fell out of a ninth-story apartment window.

Investigators said the boy, who had autism, somehow slipped out of the window of his grandmother’s ninth-floor apartment at Bel Air Tower in Brockton.

A family member made a 911 call Monday morning after the boy landed on the concrete walkway.

When paramedics arrived, the boy was unresponsive. He was rushed to a local hospital, but efforts to save his life were unsuccessful.

Police are now looking for any clues at the apartment as to how the boy fell out of the window.
