SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- A lot has happened in the past 24 hours since we first told you about a murder at a convenience store in Springfield.
A suspect is now in custody, and police said the man he's accused of killing is his father.
We are also learning the suspect is a former corrections officer.
The Hampden District Attorney said Genesis Arias Santos killed Humberto Santos, who they believe to be his father.
This happened in broad daylight in the middle of the day.
“This docket alleges that on June 14, 2021, you did assault and beat Humberto Santos with intent to murder such person.”

The victim, law enforcement said, is Genesis’ own father Humberto Santos.
The suspect, Hampden County officials confirm to Western Mass News worked as a corrections officer for a little more than a year before resigning in 2019.

This is the scene from Monday. Springfield Police described it as a mid-morning shooting.
They said Genesis returned to the scene of the crime and was brought to the hospital for a medical episode before police could identify him as a suspect.
But as of late Monday evening, police said detectives determined Genesis was the lone suspect and arrested him while in the hospital.
Arias Santos entered a plea of not guilty.
Genesis is now being held without the right to bail while the community mourns his father.
