A bicyclist was seriously injured after striking a vehicle at a stop light overnight in Northampton.

Northampton Police Sgt. Greg Korepta reports they were called to the scene on New South Street just after 1 a.m. Saturday.

The bicyclist we're told, is a man. He received serious injuries and was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for treatment.

An accident reconstruction team with the Northampton Police Department was also called in to investigate.

Korepta says the driver in the vehicle did cooperate with investigators.

At this time no charges or citations have been issued...the vehicle was "stopped at a red light," Korepta noted.

The accident is being investigated by the Northampton Police Department.
