MassDOT has closed a bridge that connects Ludlow and Wilbraham indefinitely. The bridge, which spans the Chicopee River and connects Red Bridge Road in Wilbraham with East Street in Ludlow, will be closed indefinitely for repairs, according to Wilbraham police Capt. Timothy Kane.
“We've had trouble with this bridge for several years.” JT Gaucher, Ludlow DPW Director said. “It's under design right now for rehabilitiation. We've had problems with the abutments deteriorating and we're looking to correct that problem."
The Ludlow and Wilbraham highway departments closed their entrances to the bridge at about 1:30 p.m.The unexpected shutdown results in motorists having to find an alternative route from town to town.
One lane of the bridge has already been closed for the past year. Copyright 2015 WSHM (Meredith Corporation). All rights reserved.
