There's new progress in rolling out recreational marijuana retail in western Massachusetts.

An Easthampton dispensary has the provisional green light to launch a recreational business.

The INSA dispensary is one step closer to opening their recreational marijuana business, but there are a few more hurdles before they can set up shop.

That Easthampton medical marijuana dispensary is looking to add recreational merchandise to their inventory.

"The CCC has approved our application and has awarded us a provisional license," said Mark Zatykra with INSA.

INSA has been working for months to expand their business.

This brings them one step closer to being able to service 21-plus customers.

"So the provisional license means that we submitted our application. We have it in full and after the initial review, it looks like we meet all the requirements," Zatyrka added.

From there, the Cannabis Control Commission will inspect the facility before they can be granted final approval.

"So moving forward, we will have to have all of our inventory segregated between medical and recreational use. That’s virtually and physically," Zatyrka explained.

Exactly when they will get the official go-ahead is still up in the air, but they are focusing on the future.

Easthampton Mayor Nicole LaChapelle told Western Mass News she supports the launch.

"We’re excited to see their due diligence and commitment to the process has paid off. We look forward to seeing them in front of the planning board for special permitting," LaChapelle added.

The mayor said that there are a lot of benefits that come with the budding business.

"They’re a great job source for Easthampton. Staff there is well-trained," LaChapelle noted.

Again, the timeline for opening the facility is still unclear.
