WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- As the day has gone on, more and more people have flooded The Big E fairgrounds for yet another year of fun.

This morning, people lined Memorial Avenue, eager for the gates to open and as we found, the early bird gets the worm.

Deep fried everything is at last upon us with The Big E making its triumphant return.

Western Mass News found fairgoers who gathered early to beat the crowd, getting their caffeine and donuts to fuel them for the day.

“We did, we did. We had to make time for breakfast," said Donna Bitzer-Garrand of Southampton.

However, that’s just the first course for these early birds who have a long day of chowing down ahead of them.

“Everything that we can get in today. The food in the state buildings are great," Bitzer-Garrand added.

While plenty of people are fine with the classics like the donuts, there's also some new food that people are excited to try out.

“[How does a deep fried ball with like a taco inside sound to you?] That sounds okay. I could do that. [Okay. How about an apple fritter pulled pork sandwich?] That actually sounds good too," Bitzer-Garrand said.

However, to try all that and more, Bitzer-Garrand knows she’s gonna have to save some room.

"I'm gonna have to share all of these, you know, because I'm not going to be able to eat all of them," Bitzer-Garrand noted.

Not in one sitting at least.
