Rootstock: Home held a fundraiser Saturday night for a Russian immigrant taking sanctuary at The Unitarian Society For Northampton & Florence.

Irida Kakhtiranova has been at the church since the beginning of April.

The fundraiser featured lots of music, games and raffles, all to support her family.

The community says they're honored to help her in a challenging time.

"As humans," says event organizer Cait Simpson. "We create borders that don't need to be there. Irida is a hardworking person with a family since 2003."

Irida is not sure of how long she will be staying in sanctuary, but she is hopeful for her future.
