LAWRENCE, MA (WGGB) -- Many in the community may want to help those impacted by the gas fires and explosions in Lawrence, Andover, North Andover.

On Friday, the American Red Cross outlined how people can help.

The Red Cross is asking that people not drop-off food or supplies to the four established evacuation centers in the three communities as the agency doesn't have the capacity to store or sort those donations.

Rather, those looking to help can do the following:

  • Financial donations can be made at (800) RED-CROSS or text RedCross to 90999 to donate $10
  • Those looking to volunteer are asked to go online to begin the process.  The Red Cross said that they have activated a quick path to volunteer opportunities for the response.
  • Food and water vendors, as well as restaurants, looking to donate perishable food supplies should contact (800) 564-1234
  • Those looking to donate supplies should email

The Red Cross is working with state and local officials to coordinate food and clothing donations for those effected by fire and power outages.

More information on those efforts have not yet been announced.

In addition, the Red Cross is continuing to ask people to seek out blood drives in other areas, outside the Merrimack Valley as the demand for blood is high with Hurricane Florence impacting the southeast
