SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- A K-9 has been injured following an afternoon fire in Springfield.

Springfield Fire Capt. Brian Tetrault said that crews responded to the MGM K-9 kennels on Union Street around 3:45 p.m. Thursday.

When firefighters arrived, they discovered a small section of the roof that was on fire.

Tetrault added that one K-9 was injured due to broken glass.  That dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.

No other injuries were reported.

The fire caused approximately $8,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
