On Wednesday, students at Ludlow High School headed into their first day with confidence and words of encouragement.

Whether it was their first day of high school or their last first day, the students at Ludlow High received a warm welcome from teachers and staff.

The inspiration started the moment students pulled onto campus as dozens of signs lined up with quotes and welcome back sayings

In front of the school, colorful chalk art was drawn by students to help cheer on everyone that walked through the front door.

As students got dropped off, the principal was right there taking selfies and photos with them to add a little excitement to their early morning.

Western Mass News spoke to one freshman about her first day and she said the warm welcome helped her feel comfortable and ready to start the school year.

"It was good and there were teachers showing us around and it was really welcoming with all the people waiting for us," said Gabriella Martins.

Principal Lisa Nemeth said the school did this big first day celebration for the first time to help students ease into the school year.
