One person has died following a double-shooting incident in Palmer late Saturday night. Police also say the other individual suffered life-threatening injuries.

The Palmer Police Department tells Western Mass News the shooting incident happened at 10:14 p.m. at a residence in the Thorndike section of Palmer.

Police say they originally received a report of a "female having been shot."

The Hampden County District Attorney's office has released new details regarding the incident, stating that upon arrival, first responders immediately rendered first aide to the 21 year-old female who was suffering from a single gunshot wound.

The female victim, who was alert, stated her boyfriend had accidentally shot her while he was unloading his firearm. She was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield

First responders then found her 24 year-old boyfriend dead of an apparent self inflicted gun shot wound.

The D.A.'s office says he was found outside of the 311 River Street home where first responders were called to.

The double-shooting incident remains under investigation by Detectives with the Palmer Police Department and by the Massachusetts State Police.
