One person is dead following an early morning crash in Springfield.

Dennis Leger, aide to Springfield's fire commissioner, said that around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters found a male pinned under a 2014 Honda Accord following a rollover crash on I-291 East, near Exit 4

Mass. State Police spokesperson David Procopio told Western Mass News that a preliminary investigation indicates that the car may have hit the guardrail, went out of control, and hit an embankment.

Crews rushed to extricate him. "Firefighters used inflatable rescue bags to lift the vehicle,” Leger added.

Procopio added that the driver, a 30-year-old Chicopee man, was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The victim's name has not yet been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
