One person was killed and two others were injured in a serious crash in Athol Sunday night.

The Northwestern District Attorney's Office reports the accident happened at about 8 p.m. in the area of 1060 South Athol Road.

It was a single motor vehicle crash and Mary Carey, NWDA representative, told Western Mass News that two people were transported to UMass Medical Center in Worcester with what are described as "serious" injuries.

Further details weren't immediately available.

The identity of the crash victim has not been released at this time.

The crash is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police, the NWDA's Office, Athol Police, and a State Police Reconstruction team.
