Preparations underway for The Big E

We're less than two weeks away from the start of the Big E and businesses are getting ready. The crowds, the food, the fun -- it's all on its way.

Taking advantage of the perfect weekend weather, businesses began to set up their tents.

"It's a huge fair. We do the parade here. I like the cream puffs at the Big E!," said Ashley Schacht from The Petting Zoo.

Camels, elephants, goats and a zebra will soon make their way into the pens once their owners are finished prepping.

"We paint all the stakes. We just finished painting all the fences," said Schacht.

Right next door, the owners of Clemenza's Cafe and brick oven pizzeria are taking their tables down and designing their menu.

New this year is the deep fried apple pie and a sangria bar.

"For food, we have eggplant fries, we have little pizzetes, brick oven pizzetes, we have arancini, deep fried red velvet , snickers, almond joys, cookie dough, brownies, among other things," says Anthony Martone from Clemenza’s.

Preparing food like that takes months. Anthony Martone has had The Big E on his mind since December.

"Every winter, I try to come up with a different product," said Martone."You see people grow up! People have kids and you look forward to seeing the same people every year."

As far as all the construction goes, Mass DOT says they'll pause it and have two lanes on both sides of Memorial Avenue open in time for the fair.
