A Springfield man is under arrest, accused of threatening two people and a Boston school.

Chicopee Police Officer Michael Wilk said that two people went into the police department on Sunday to report an incident.

The man and woman said that they were giving a friend a ride when he reportedly began to act strange.

The vehicle was stopped at a light near Grattan Street and McKinstry Avenue "when the individual brandished a handgun, and began making threats to shoot them both," Wilk explained.

The male driver reportedly told investigators that that person - identified by police as 32-year-old Steven Arroyo of Springfield - tried to pistol-whip him, but was unsuccessful.

Arroyo then allegedly grabbed the woman's hair and threatened to assault her.

"At this point, the operator began yelling and telling him to leave his car, which he did," Wilk noted.

Later that day, the male victim reported to police that Arroyo had allegedly tried to contact him via Facebook and that he reportedly made threats to shoot up a school that they both attend in Boston.

Chicopee Police sought assistance from Springfield Police in locating Arroyo. After making contact with him, Arroyo went to Chicopee Police and was placed under arrest.

Arroyo is charged with assault with intent to rape, four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, threatening to commit a crime, and threatening to commit a terrorist act. He was held on $25,000 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Chicopee District Court.
