It was a star studded night and an emotional moment for Caitlyn Jenner describing the difficulties transgender youth face in today’s society, some even taking their own lives.

“Could it of been different, could of spotlighting this issue with more attention, could it of changed the way things happen? We’ll never know,” Caitlyn Jenner said.

The former Olympic athlete hopes to impact the lives of youth across the world dealing with the same issues she had to endure.

" I know I’m clear with my responsibility in going forward, to tell my story the right way for me, to keep learning, and to do whatever I can to reshape the landscape of how trans issues are viewed," Caitlyn Jenner said.

Ben Power is a transgender male who knew at four years old he was a boy trapped in a female body.

"I struggled with suicidal thoughts and thinking a few times in my life," said Power.

When he came out to his parents they committed him to a mental hospital.

Power says "the effort was to try and change me."

Jenner’s speech urging respect for transgender people brought him to tears of joy.

Western New England University professor Jennifer Levi says, "the courage that she has had to speak about transitioning so openly has been tremendously powerful and it’s going to serve to educate parents."

Jenner wants to use her spotlight to save the lives of transgender youth through education.

"The visibility of this one person has at such a vulnerable time is a tremendously important and positive message," said Levi.

Caitlyn Jenner’s eight part documentary series premieres July 26 at 9 p.m. on the E network.
