Springfield Police investigating afternoon shooting

Authorities have identified the man who was shot and killed Wednesday in Springfield.

Jim Leydon, spokesperson for the Hampden County District Attorney's office, said that 28-year-old Savon Kelly of West Springfield died from injuries he sustained yesterday morning.

Springfield Police were called to Greenleaf Street around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday following a ShotSpotter activation.

When officers arrived, they found Kelly in a car, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was then transported to Baystate Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Leydon noted that the investigation is active and ongoing by members of the Springfield Police Homicide Unit and the D.A.'s Murder Unit.
