A woman was flown to the hospital in Springfield after the vehicle she was in crashed on the highway in Deerfield Saturday afternoon, trapping her inside.

Emergency crews including a 'Life Star' helicopter crew and State Police were all called in.

The South Deerfield Fire Department confirmed with Western Mass News they were called to the accident scene at 12:37 p.m. Saturday.

This was for a rollover crash on I-91 Southbound in Deerfield. The woman was rescued from the vehicle by emergency crews using the 'Jaws of Life.'

"Life Star came to our station to pick up a person injured in the crash after being extricated by using the 'Jaws of Life,'" explained the South Deerfield Fire Department dispatcher.

The driver of the vehicle was then flown to Baystate Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, State Police Trooper Tom Ryan confirmed with Western Mass News.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, State Police report.

The woman's identity was not released.
