MIDDLETON, Idaho (Meredith) — A western Idaho community is outraged after local elementary school teachers dressed up in Halloween costumes depicting stereotypical Mexicans and President Donald Trump's "border wall."

The teachers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave as of Saturday, according to the Idaho Statesman. It's unclear whether the leave is paid or unpaid.

The photos show the teachers dressed in costumes at the school.

The photos were originally posted on the school district's Facebook page but have since been removed, according to KIVI.

The school district is now investigating the incident, according to superintendent Josh Middleton. In a Facebook video, Middleton said he is "deeply troubled by the decision by a staff member to wear those costumes that are clearly insensitive and inappropriate."

In the video, Middleton said he was contacted by parents expressing concern over the costumes. He also said he does not believe there was malicious intent behind the costumes but that it was a poor judgment call.

"We are better than this. We embrace all students. We have a responsibility to teach all students," Middleton said in the Facebook video. He also offered "sincerest and deepest and humblest apologies to our families, to our patrons."

Middleton, Idaho is located about 40 minutes west of Boise.
