Near record warmth for your Friday afternoon

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Shaping up to be a very mild day today with temperatures running some 15 degrees above normal for this time of year. Enjoy it while it lasts though as cooler air will be moving in this weekend along with the chance for a few showers on Saturday.

A area of high pressure that is pushing offshore will continue to influence our weather with dry conditions today and our wind turns more southwesterly. Great news for the parade of big balloons on Main St. in Springfield. Temperatures will rise into the low 50s by 11 am for all the festivities. We may reach the lower 60s this afternoon! The record high for the date at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee is 62, set in 1946.

A cold front arrives early Saturday morning, bringing with it a chance for a few showers in the morning and early afternoon. Highs on Saturday will top out in the mid to upper 40s.

Behind the cold front, we dry out through Sunday and Monday with temperatures in the mid 40s under partly to mostly sunny skies.
