Passenger killed after car strikes home on Montgomery Street in Chicopee
CHICOPEE, MA. (WGGB/WSHM) - One person has died after a car crash into a house on Montgomery Street in Chicopee.
The Hampden District Attorney’s office confirmed a passenger was pronounced dead on-scene.
Officials said the driver and three passengers ranging from 13 to 19 years old were in the car. The other three passengers were taken to the hospital.
One person living in the house was inside the room the car crashed into and was hit by the car, they were taken to the hospital for their injuries. Everyone else inside exited safely before the house was engulfed in flames.
At the scene, the house is boarded up and crews are still directing traffic in the area.
When Western Mass News crews first arrived on Saturday morning, we saw a dented car crashed into the first floor of the house. Montgomery Street from Dale Street to Sinard Drive was closed for investigation.
The DA’s office said Chicopee Police saw a vehicle speeding on Broadway Street just before 3 a.m. on Saturday. An officer pulled the car over, but as he walked up to it, he said the driver sped off. The officer then found the car after it crashed into the house.
The cause of the crash is unknown. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
