Police investigating after bullets hit two Belchertown homes

BELCHERTOWN, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Authorities are looking for the public’s help as they investigate two incidents in which bullets hit Belchertown homes.

Laurie Loisel, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, said last Friday, an errant bullet hit a home on Mountain View Drive. The homeowners were home, but not in the room the bullet struck and broke a sliding glass door. Police recovered a projectile from the scene, which was sent to Mass. State Police for analysis.

Mountain View Drive is near the Belchertown/Granby town line and officials said it’s approximately one mile east of the Granby Bow and Gun Club.

Another bullet hit a different home on the same road on June 27, 2023 when a glass door was hit and shattered by a bullet. Following an investigation, the origin of the bullet could not be determined.

In both instances, nobody was hit by the gunfire and no injuries were reported.

Belchertown Police Chief Kevin Pacunas said in a statement: “These incidents have understandably caused the residents of this neighborhood a tremendous amount of fear and concern for their safety…We are doing everything we can to determine where these errant bullets are coming from, and to prevent it from happening again.”
