Elderly woman robs bank, turns over money to police

GARDENDALE, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) - Police say a woman reportedly robbed a bank in Alabama before turning the money over to law enforcement.

According to Gardendale Police, at 9:03 a.m. on April 10, an elderly woman entered the Regions Bank on Odum Road and presented a note demanding money.

Gardendale Police say after receiving the money, the woman immediately came to the police department and voluntarily surrendered the money.

A spokesperson for Regions said everyone on site was safe and no injuries were reported.

Police believe the woman acted alone.

The woman’s caregiver was notified, and the situation is being handled “appropriately,” according to police.

The woman is in custody. Police say charges are pending.

Regions’ corporate security team is working with the police. The bank was closed on the day of the incident.

FBI Birmingham is assisting the investigation.
