Child dead in bicycle-involved car accident
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - On the evening of Friday August 7th, troopers with the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit were alerted to a report of a motor vehicle on bicycle crash at the intersection of Main Street and Buxton Hill Road.
The 7-year-old child from Williamstown was riding their bike down Buxton Hill Road toward Main Street while the driver of the car was driving east towards Main Street.
Information from the early stages of the investigation suggest that the child may have unintentionally got on Main Street where they were struck by a vehicle.
The rider of the bicycle died from their injuries on scene. The cyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and the driver of the vehicle was found not to be driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office urged privacy for the child’s family at this difficult time.
