Richard Gere returns to UMass for documentary screening
AMHERST, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Actor and UMass Amherst alumnus Richard Gere is returning to campus for a special screening of a documentary he worked on with the Dalai Lama.
Gere is an executive producer on the documentary “Wisdom of Happiness,” which may include the Dalai Lama’s last, long interview.
The free event takes place tonight at the Randolph W. Bromery Center for the Arts.
Gere was a student at UMass for two years.
“There were new creative and neural pathways that opened from that experience, for sure,” Gere said. “And I did have some wonderful teachers there. I wrote the beginnings of my first screenplays there in an English class. I made my first little films.”
Gere said that if people are not able to make it to tonight’s screening, “Wisdom of Happiness” is available to stream. It can be found on Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.
