Springfield woman dies after apartment fire

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A woman has died after a fire late last week in Springfield.

Jake Wark, spokesperson for the state fire marshal’s office, said firefighters were called to 75 Oswego Street around 6 a.m. Friday for an alarm activation. When crews arrived, they went into the fourth floor apartment and found an adult woman unresponsive and suffering from cardiac arrest.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was rescued from the building and EMTs were able to restore her pulse. She was taken to an area hospital, but died from her injuries over the weekend.

Wark added that officials determined that the fire started in the bedroom, but the cause remains under investigation.
