AGAWAM, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - In Agawam’s Feeding Hills, historians shared what it was like 250 years ago before you could turn up the heat for the winter.

People gathered to watch open hearth cooking demonstrations at the Thomas Smith House before it closes for the season. Officials there wanted to educate the public about what life was like in the 18th Century, “it’s a wealth of information. All the practices from the colonial era of food preservation, food preparation, and just the stories that accompany all of it,” said Agawam Historical Society President David Cecchi, “it’s an amazing education, so we’re happy that we can do this for the public.”

People of all ages turned out for the event and although the house is packing up for the winter. Checchi said more events are coming to another historic museum next week; you can find the information on the historical society’s website.
