SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Several power outages, accidents and slippery conditions reported Thanksgiving Day in western Massachusetts including in the town of Hawley.

Hawley is located north in Franklin County with National Grid reporting close to 100 customers without power at around 1 p.m. Thursday.

Hawley Fire Chief, Gregory Cox told Western Mass News the power outage was connected to a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Route 8A around 10:40 a.m. near the 200 block of West Hawley Rd. that left a utility pole broken.

Two people were transported from that scene to Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield. No immediate word on the extent of their injuries. We’re told both individuals were adults.

Cox said National Grid was on scene to replace the pole and explained that power was shut off while crews worked.

“Very slippery conditions down on Route 8A ..we’ve had about 8 1/2 inches of snow. There have been at least 4 accidents where people slid off the road,” explained Chief Cox.

A National Grid spokesperson told Western Mass News they expected power to be restored in Hawley by about 3:30 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.

Several other scattered power outages reported Thanksgiving Day as a storm system rolled through included in Franklin County, Hampden County, and the Berkshires.
