SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Springfield residents were among many who awoke to a good amount of snowfall Thursday morning, which impacted road conditions for early commuters and even students getting ready for school.

“Don’t run, be careful, and try not to fall… and have fun,” said Max Laguerre and Sebastian Felix, both of Springfield.

That was the motto for many students Thursday morning who were heading to school after wet snow and freezing temperatures went hand-and-hand, but students like Laguerre and Sebastian said they made the best out of it.

“It’s fun and it’s also kind of bad because I keep on falling, but other than that, yeah, it’s pretty fun,” the pair added.

Snowy conditions led to a two-hour delay for Springfield Public Schools around 6 a.m. as cleanup efforts were underway, which was a good call for students getting ready for school.

“I’m glad that they gave us it because it’s currently still snowing, so if they didn’t give us a delay, the snow would’ve been way higher. I would’ve been way colder and my feet would’ve been way more wet and I don’t want that,” said eleventh grader Lye’vier Belnavis.

It was also a good time to catch up on some sleep. “I got more time to sleep in, so now, I feel really energized and ready for school today except those other days and I’m still kind of tired,” Belnavis said.
