Hawk rescue in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Firefighters were able to rescue a hawk trapped on a rooftop in Springfield Thursday.

According to Captain Drew Piemonte with the Springfield Fire Department members of Truck-2 were called to the scene at around 8 a.m.

The red-tailed hawk was trapped in some netting on a roof on West Hill Road.

When firefighters arrived they were able to free the bird.

“...(The) red-tailed hawk (was) entangled in netting beneath a rooftop solar panel. T-2 successfully cut the netting, freeing the hawk,” noted Piemonte.

The firefighters then let the bird go back into the wild and it flew away on it’s own!
