Comedian Tina Friml performing at MGM Springfield this weekend
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - An award-winning comedian is making her way to Springfield this weekend for the first time in her career. “One thing that I love about being a disabled comic, I can never be a hack,” said comedian Tina Friml.
With Friml heading to MGM Springfield’s Roar! Comedy Club this weekend, the one thing you can expect is the unexpected. “They roughly know what they’re in for and I like to really divert them the whole time,” she added.
A trailblazer with a trophy case to prove it, Friml has spent her time in the world of comedy challenging audiences with her own unique style. “There aren’t a whole lot of disabled young women in the media at all, so I think that getting up there, playing with expectations that people don’t even realize that they have, and again, challenging them, that’s my favorite part,” she explained.
It’s about shattering boundaries and then commenting on the rubble. “I break the fourth wall a lot. In that, a lot of my comedy is, in fact, about, ‘Hey, look at us right now. Look at how you’re reacting to this and look at me up here,’” Friml noted.
She hopes that audiences leave with their minds opened as the curtains close. “They kinda forget about the disability in the first ten minutes and then it’s a person and it might be the longest period of time they’ve ever listened to a person with a disability talk at them,” Friml said.
You can catch Friml Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at MGM Springfield’s Roar Comedy Club. You can CLICK HERE for more information or tickets.
