SPRINGFIELD, MA (WFSB) - Made-to-order subs, wraps, and paninis were recalled by Big Y.

Big Y said the recall applies to customers who bought the items from stores in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

The supermarket chain said the items have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella.

It said it was notified by Smartcuts that the sliced cucumbers distributed to stores were impacted by an ongoing Bedner Growers Inc. salmonella outrbeak investigation.

“The Smartcuts sliced cucumber is provided as an ingredient option for customers to order when ordering a sub, wrap, or panini at the sandwich service line within the retail kitchen department,” Big Y said on its website. “Big Y Foods has ceased operation in all stores that carried cucumber in the retail kitchen department, discarded product within the sub, wrap, and panini service line, then thoroughly cleaned and sanitized the service line.”

Big Y said all made-to-order subs, wraps, and paninis were produced within the kitchen department upon customer request.

It said the subs, wraps, and paninis impacted by the cucumber recall were provided for sale to consumers on May 20, 2025 and May 21, 2025.

“These subs, wraps, and paninis were not prepackaged for customer self-service,” it said.

No illnesses were reported to date.
