Springfield road closures scheduled for Hall of Fame enshrinement events
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - One of the biggest events in basketball is taking place this weekend in Springfield. Symphony Hall is almost ready to welcome almost 2,000 people for the Basketball Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony.
All eyes are on this year’s inductees with banners representing their greatness being hung on the hall’s pillars. Some former players receiving the honor include 10-time all-star Carmelo Anthony, four-time WNBA champion Sue Bird, and legendary University of Florida head coach Billy Donovan. The 2008 men’s Olympic basketball team, also known as the Redeem Team, will also be inducted after winning the gold medal with eight-straight wins.
However, this weekend’s event also means road closures. A portion of East Columbus Avenue will also be closed from approximately 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. That closure will be from the I-91 south garage entrance to Symphony Hall. The garage will be also be closed during this closure, but you will still be able to get onto I-91 north from this area.
The “horseshoe” next to city hall has also already been closed so television crews can set up, But City Hall Place and Pynchon Street will remain open.
