Dakin, Balise partner to offer reduced adoption fees for October
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- Pet lovers have a new opportunity to welcome a furry friend into their homes as Dakin Humane Society reduces adoption fees this month for select cats and dogs through a partnership with Balise Subaru of Hadley.
The shelter is currently at full capacity for cats and has about 80 animals available for adoption on their website. By reducing adoption fees this month, it’s helping homes for some of these animals that have been here for a long time, while also opening up spaces for new animals.
Despite the reduced fees, Dakin is not changing any of their adoption procedures, including conversations and two-way counseling between potential adopters and shelter staff. “Everything that we would normally do when the prices are regular, we adhere to those guidelines during the promotions,” said Stacey Price, director of development and marketing at Dakin Humane Society.
Price emphasized that, while the shelter provides excellent care, nothing compares to a loving home environment. “A home is by far the best environment. Even as much as we do at the shelter, we work with them and give them nourishment, it doesn’t compete with a home,” she said.
When animals are occasionally returned to the shelter, Price views these situations as positive learning experiences for the shelter. “We are more than happy to take the animal back and, in many cases, we have. We don’t want the people to feel guilty about it. We look at it as a positive thing that they could go into a home for a short period of time,” Price said.
The funds donated by Subaru will help nearly 400 animals find homes during the promotion period.
