Mayflower Marathon reaches record high on ‘Giving Tuesday’
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- MGM Springfield joined ROCK02 hosts Bax and Nagle to sort through the food collected during this year’s ROCK102 Mayflower Marathon.
‘Giving Tuesday’ was in full swing at the Open Pantry Community Services in Springfield as thousands of pounds of donated food were organized, from canned goods, to pasta, and baking supplies.
Rock102 morning show hosts Mike Baxendale and Steve Nagle told us, “Last year we raised about 237 thousand, but this year we were way over that. The generosity of the community really was something special...I know that there’s a lot of people out there that rely on these services that the open pantry provides, and when you’re talking food insecurity in Hampden County alone at 54 percent, all of these canned goods, these non-perishable food donations are going to go a long long way.”
It was also announced that just over $262K was raised, which is a new record in the event’s 32nd year!
