NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A 29-year-old woman has been sentenced after she assaulted a teenage girl at Northampton High School earlier this year.

Amanda Diaz went with her brother and niece to meet up with school administrators on the afternoon of Feb. 11. Her niece was a student at the school. When they got there, Diaz saw a 17-year-old girl who police said she had previously had an issue with.

Diaz caught up to the teenager and attacked her. The school was immediately placed in a ‘shelter-in-place’ status while staff intervened and broke up the fight. Both Diaz and the teen suffered non-life-threatening facial injuries.

Diaz left the school with blood on her face and shirt.

On July 17, she pleaded guilty, which was accepted by the judge, to disturbing a public assembly and assault and battery. A previous trespassing charge was dismissed.

The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office said that Diaz was sentenced to six months in a House of Correction, which is suspended for one year, with probation conditions that she stay away from the school and the victim.
