Was Bigfoot spotted near the Pachaug State Forest?

“Black bears, raccoons, bobcats, that sort of thing. So it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a Bigfoot too,” Voluntown resident Richard Fedor said.

Someone said they saw him, but neighbors say they aren’t so sure.

“Anything’s possible these days, but you know, I have never seen a Bigfoot,” resident Peter Gautieri said.

The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization is dedicated to documenting credible encounters with the creature.

The group said a reported Bigfoot sighting in the early hours of July 5 took place on Wiley School Road, just a couple hundred feet west of Forge Hill Road.

The eyewitness account was so descriptive that the researchers gave it their highest level of credibility.

“You know, it’s probably a guy running around with a costume on. Who knows?” Gautieri said.

A neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous doubts the account given by the witness.

He said he knows what it’s like to be driving around in the middle of the night, and some things just aren’t what they appear.

“It’s amazing what your mind can do with shadows and things like that when you’re tired and, you know, you’re dehydrated,” the neighbor said.

The neighbor questions whether sasquatches even exist anywhere in the country.

He thinks with the number of cameras nowadays, one should have captured an accurate image of the cryptid by now.

“We live in a society with cameras and recording devices and sensors everywhere, so to say that something is escaping everyone nationwide or, you know, that there would have to be a group of these things in isolated areas,” he said.

Still, the nearby Pachaug State Forest is the largest in the state, at more than 26,000 acres. There’s a mix of dense woods and enough water sources.

Fedor has lived in Voluntown for three decades and said if Bigfoot is in Connecticut, the state forest might be the most likely location.

“Every once in a while, if it’s really quiet and still, you’ll hear like a branch pop in the distance. Yeah, it makes you wonder, ‘Oh, what, what’s walking around back there?’” Fedor said.

The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization has tallied 22 reports of sightings in Connecticut, and 11 of those were in Litchfield County.
