Downtown Springfield hosts Rise Above Cancer Gala

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Switching gears now, Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno was in attendance for a gala Saturday honoring those living with cancer.

The rise above cancer gala held its first ever event at the Mariott downtown. It was a powerful black-tie event honoring the strength and resilience of those impacted by cancer. A number of cancer heroes shared their unforgettable stories as people enjoyed an elegant dinner and entertainment.

Mayor Sarno was there in support and to thank the co-founder of the event, Cindy Sheridan, who he described as a true warrior. Money raised went toward practical programs aiding survivor guidance and peer connection as well as tools for everyday life.
