Handgun, cocaine seized in a pair of arrests in Holyoke

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - The Holyoke Police Department announced that on Thursday, July 30th, officers of the Holyoke Police with assistance from state and federal law enforcement arrested two people for a illegal possession of a firearm and a large quantity of cocaine.

After 9 a.m. that morning, police entered an apartment at the 100 block of Hampshire Street to find 37-year-old Joshua Lopez, who had two active warrants for his arrest.

Police entered the apartment and noticed 34-year-old Maria Viera-Rivera of Holyoke inside the home as well as a handgun during their search.

Lopez was eventually found by Holyoke Police and placed under arrest. Upon further search of the home, a large capacity magazine and roughly 27 grams of cocaine was found.

Viera-Rivera was placed under arrest as well after the search, both her and Lopez now face a slew of gun and drug charges.
